We use a cloud-based email provider, SendGrid, to ensure all emails sent from your channel partner portal get delivered properly, and there's generally no need to use a custom SMTP server. However, certain customers may want to use their own SMTP server, which we support. Here's how:
Step 1: Go to Settings > Email > Email Settings
Select "Send mail through my own SMTP server" and then click the "Configure SMTP server" link:
Step 2: Enter your SMTP server details
Enter your SMTP server domain, port, username and password and hit the Test button.
What are the pros and cons of using my own SMTP server to send emails?
- Emails come from your own/company address vs. firstname.lastname@example.org.
- In some very rare cases, certain email servers will block messages sent from email@example.com even after whitelisting our sending IP address. If this happens, we recommend using your own SMTP server to send emails from Channeltivity as it will help with deliverability.
- It requires someone to set it up, maintain and configure it properly. Misconfiguration could affect successful delivery rates.
- You won't be able to use the Email Log to track the delivery and open status of messages sent through your own server.
