What is User Impersonation?

User Impersonation allows Administrators to access and operate Channeltivity as if they were logged in as that User.

Why is this feature important?

This feature is useful when testing permissions and content that only your Partner Users can see. For example, if a Partner User has encountered an issue while using the system, an Administrator can use the User Impersonation feature to troubleshoot.

How do I impersonate a User?

From the main side menu, locate the Admin tab and click the caret to expand the navigation. Select the Users option from the list under Admin.

From the Users page, search the User you want to impersonate by using the “Search Users” box on the left. Once you have found the User you want to impersonate, click the User’s first or last name.

In the User’s details page, click the Actions button in the top right corner and select Impersonate to assume the User’s identity.

You will be taken to the User’s homepage, and in the top right corner, you will see the User’s name with [Impersonating] showing beside it. This means you are operating the system as this User.

To exit Impersonation and log in as yourself, click the User’s name in the top right corner, and select Return to Impersonator from the list.

Who can impersonate Users?

Admin Users are the only Users that can impersonate Users.

Can I impersonate Users using the "Preview page content as..." functionality on the home page?

No, the Preview page functionality only allows you to view content on the home page as a specific User. It does not apply to other areas of the portal.
