It's easy to link to password-protected Documents in the Resource Library in your partner portal, but you need to pick the right link. This article explains the security protection of Library Documents and how to find the correct link to share via email etc.
How Documents are Secured in the Library
All files uploaded to Channeltivity are stored in secure cloud storage and can only be downloaded with a special temporary link that gets generated on the fly for each download attempt. Here's an example of what a temporary download link like that looks like (it won't work, by the way, since it's long expired):
Within Channeltivity's Resource Library, each Document can be downloaded by clicking on a permanent link that looks similar to:
When a User clicks on that link, Channeltivity first makes sure the User is logged in and has permissions to download the file, and then creates a temporary download link that the User is redirected to. All this happens in a fraction of a second, so the User immediately starts downloading the requested file after clicking. If the User is not logged in, they will be redirected to the login page of your partner portal, which, once they enter their credentials and log in, will bring them directly to the download.
How to Share a Link to a Document in the Library
The key to sharing a link to a Library Document is to pick the permanent link and not the temporary one. Since clicking on a link will immediately redirect you to the temporary download URL, you'll need to copy the permanent link. In Google Chrome, you can right-click/control-click the link and then copy it:
- In FireFox, select "Copy Link Location" instead of "Copy link address".
- In Internet Explorer, select "Copy Shortcut" instead of "Copy link address".
This will give you the permanent link, which you can paste wherever you want to use it. Anyone clicking it that's not logged in will be shown the login page. Logged-in Users will be able to download the Document.
